Today’s Sunday Shots from last night’s UAH game against the US NTDP U-18 team.

After a long road trip, the UAH Chargers were back at the Von Braun Center for a series against the U.S. Under-18 Team. They dropped a 6-2 decision Friday night, a UAH performance that infuriated Charger head coach Kurt Klienendorst. UAH hit the ice much more determined and focused for Saturday night’s tilt, playing the kind of physical game that was missing from Friday's effort. The better effort yielded better results, a 1-1 tie with the U-18’s. A big reason for the successful outcome for UAH was senior goaltender, John Griggs. He was masterful between the pipes for the Chargers, keeping his team in the game, making excellent saves look routine.

The crowd was thin last night, lots of competition in the market, including the SEC Championship game and a Charger basketball game as well, but a hardy (and noisy) bunch showed up, including a significant contingent of Predator fans making the short drive down from Music City. Personal thanks go out to the staff at UAH for their hospitality.

The Chargers are home again this upcoming weekend, taking on Finlandia at the VBC. Puck drop is 7pm or Friday and 3pm on Saturday. The Chargers hit the road for a pre-Christmas back-to-back at Wisconsin before heading up to Minnesota to take on Boston College and Air Force in the Mariucci Classic.

Random Notes

- Apparently the NHLPA is “still debating” weather to accept the players/owners meeting… take your time guys… it’s not like anyone else’s interests or livelihood depend on it…

- The union also authorized a $10,000 stipend to all members. Not sure what message that sends... if any.

- As readers of this blog know, I have been a big defender of the Phoenix Coyotes… but the clueless city government who would rather pay for an empty building, is doing everything in its power to screw up the sale of the team. It’s time to bring this mess to a close. Move ‘em… and let the idiotic Glendale Council have its way. I’m sorry ‘Yotes fans, this has gone on long enough.

- Good piece in yesterday’s Toronto Sun about “non-traditional” hockey markets producing some solid talent. Read it here.

- Sometimes I wish that the mainstream hockey media would wake up and understand that the Forbes list of NHL Team Valuation is a GUESS!!!! It is not the Bible… it is pure speculation! But so-called “reputable” media sources use it all the time… Now when a blogger uses a similar source, the great god “journalism” is invoked… keep that in mind next time you see an analysis based on Forbes.
