Defense:

David Musil – The Oilers product is a very good shutdown defenseman that plays with a physical edge. He also has some growing offensive awareness. He’s been solid but unspectacular internationally but will now have a chance as the squad’s top defender to show what he can do.

Marek Hrbas – Hrbas is another return player. The 5’11 defender brings a decent all-around game with very little outstanding about him. He plays for the Kamloops Blazers who are currently burning the WHL to cinders with their scoring prowess. He’s tied for the team lead in scoring from the defense with 10 points in 23 games.

Jan Kostalek – Kostalek is draft eligible this season and the 17 year old looks like a decent choice in the 3rd or 4th round. He plays a simple and physical game that relies on smarts and positioning. He’s reliable defensively and doesn’t make a lot of mistakes.

Tomas Pavelka – The 19 year old undrafted defender plays for the PEI Rocket in the QMJHL. He’s having a very good year offensively and is definitely looking better than his hilarious -45 of last year which was by far the worst on his team.

Goaltender:

Patrik Bartosak – Bartosak would be my choice for the starting position and his play for Red Deer in the WHL has been exemplary. The 6’1 19 year old went undrafted but will likely get some views this year if his season continues the way it’s going. He’s one of the top goalies in the WHL so far being third place in sv% with .933 in 23 games.
