Flames Playing Abroad During Lockout

Now that we’re caught up on the Heat (who played last night, more on that in a bit) I thought we could take a look at Flames players who have found places to play during the lockout.

Anton Babchuk
Babchuk has found a place to play this season in the KHL with Donbass HC.  Averaging 22min a night he has yet to really find his offensive groove.  He has scored once, a game winner, and tallied one assist.   This typically steady defender has a minus 7 rating, though that could be more about playing on a struggling club more than anything.

Mikael Backlund
Since joining Vasteras HC in Sweden Div II Backlund has been on fire.  Notching 15 points in just 11 games the young centre is biding his time overseas while the lockout continues.  Here’s to hoping some of that offense comes back with him.

Roman Cervenka
Cervenka was playing for Slavia Praha HC in the Czech league where he amassed  5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points in just 9 games.  He has since moved on to the KHL where he has been playing with Prague Lev.  The production seems to have dropped off a little since making the move as he only has one goal and one assist in 5 games.

Jiri Hudler
Yet to even play a game for the Flames Hudler has recently signed with Prague Lev.  In 4 games he has only tallied one assist.  I think it isn’t a stretch to say he is probably still finding his legs after such a long break.  Hopefully he will start to show some of the offense which garnered him a four year 16 million dollar contract this past summer.

The Abbotsford Heat continued their winning ways last night with a shoot out win over The Rampage.  Byron and Olson both potted  goals in regular time and Bancks had the shootout winner in the 11th round of the shootout.  The Heat hope to continue their strong play today in Houston when they take on the Aeros.
