It has been reported by the website iSports.cz that former Sabre Jaroslav Spacek has retired from the NHL. The defenseman spent 13 seasons in the NHL with seven different teams, including three with Buffalo.

During his first year in Buffalo, the Sabres captured the President's Trophy, but Spacek improved from an offensive standpoint the next two years. Spacek went from 21 points (5 G, 16 A) in 2006-07 to 45 points (8 G, 37 A) in 2008-09. The 45-point season was a career high for him in assists and tied for points.

This was his first goal as a Sabre:

In 2006, he was sucker punched by Scott Nichol. Who remembers this?

Spacek played 880 games in the NHL and he has decided to retire as he is approaching the age of 40. I thank him for what he did in Buffalo.
