Before I get into the original reason why I sat down with my coffee and netbook this morning at 7 am, let me first tell you about the Sandy Relief Auction that will begin today at Noon. The Islanders have teamed up with other teams and arenas in this area to put together a one-of-a-kind on-line auction to help victims of Hurricane Sandy. Full details are here on the Isles website: http://islanders.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=645486&navid=DL|NYI|home

Now, back to my first thought. Who is to blame for the Isles Brooklyn exit? As far as I am concerned, everyone. However, there are important players in the mess and it extends past the man with the final decision. Many of the names we have heard over and over again as we have lived through the saga.

BD Gallof had the fortitude to chase down the story and he has published what he knows so far. Indeed there is more as other information is sure to emerge. It always does when one group starts blaming another for the demise of a dream. But this was more than just a dream to those already benefiting from the revenue of the Island's only professional sports team.

The Uniondale school district, who was so vocal at all the Hempstead Town board meetings about the Lighthouse project, will take a hit from this mess. All the perks they wanted, and almost demanded, from Charles Wang and his project not only will never materialize but now they will have to find funding for things they already have. Nice going Nassau.

The shortsightedness and political bickering of both Democrats and Republicans have strangled Nassau until it is on its last breath. And it's sad.

So, here is Mr. Gallof's extensive article on CBS: http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/11/12/gallof-astonishing-political-bickering-ultimately-led-to-islanders-leaving-nassau/

Read it. Digest it. Discuss it. Remember it. Especially if you are a Nassau resident. Long Island has lost something that can never be replaced. We were robbed

Update 1:39 pm:

The Islanders are wasting NO time getting acquainted with their potential new fanbase in Brooklyn. Here arena Hostess Dina runs a school assembly as she would normally be doing here on Long Island.
