It was a packed house last night at A-Game Sportsplex in Franklin for the first event by the newly reinvigorated Nashville Predators Alumni, the very active St. Louis Blues Alumni group provided the competition in last night’s game. Kelly Chase and his organization was all class, bringing out names like Darren Pang, Reed Low, Tyson Nash and Terry Yake to put on a great show. Predators alumni included Stu Grimson, Dan Keczmer and JP Dumont , and for a bit of a treat, Predators radio voice Tom Callahan showed some decent moves between the pipes as he backstopped the Pred Alums to a 9-8 victory.

There was plenty of fun to be had in the game, a non-fight between Stu Grinson and Reed Low that ended up with the two playing cards and eating pizza in the penalty box, an impromptu on-ice coaching session from Terry Crisp after goalie Callahan gave up a goal and the awarding of an medal, autographed picture and pie-in-the-face to game MVP Tyson Nash. The competitive nature of these athletes came to the fore toward the end of the game, the competition level took a significant jump in the last 4 minutes as both teams showed a hunger to get the win.

The line was out the door and around the building as game time approached, fans were lined up 3 deep at the glass when seating filled up. It was obvious the Pred Nation wanted… hell, needed... a little live hockey.

While it was a lot of fun, there was a higher purpose to last night’s game, raising money for Hurricane Sandy relief. The capacity crowd dug deep, contributing money as part of admission, where lots of fans paid significantly more that the suggested $5 admission. Thanks to all who made last night possible, and by the way…

Just a suggestion… you may want to plan on being at A-Game on Tuesday night at around 7pm… some fun is planned that you may not want to miss.

Random Notes

- Thoughts and prayers to the Geoffrion family. Brentwood native Blake Geoffrion suffered a depressed skull fracture in an AHL game Friday night. He has undergone surgery, is in intensive care and is expected to make a full recovery.

- One step forward, two steps back. Talks between the NHL and the NHLPA seem to have stalled a bit.

- Bobby Orr’s quote from James Mirtle in the Globe and Mail is remarkably frank… and dead on. “They have to accept that responsibility to sit down and get a deal done,” Orr said. “Shame on them if they don’t do that.”
