Rumours are swirling that Vancouver Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini is working franticly right now, trying to convince Bure to accept the Canucks invitation to retire his number. If this is indeed true, I will say this, "IT'S ABOUT DAM TIME".

Jason Botchford wrote in the Province yesterday,

"For some, being the most talented player in team history will never be enough. Bure will never be lovable enough. There weren’t enough community photo-ops. He was a private man who struggled to be comfortable in public, especially with fans. There was the unverified, and vehemently denied, story that Bure threatened a holdout during the run to the Cup final in 1994 because of contract demands."

While everyone has their own recant of what Bure was like during his time in Vancouver, I don't remember him being rude or awkward in the public eye. I still remember meeting Bure at a card show on one summer day. While his English was a bit patchy, he did smile, ask my name and thank me for coming.

I've dropped thousands of dollars on cars in the past and the salesman wasn't even polite enough to tahank me.

That to me is my number one Pavel Bure moment. And my number one reason for always sticking up for the guy. Bure was legendary on the ice, but I believe he was also a good guy.

It is time to pay tribute to him and put number 10 in the rafters.

Should Vancouver retire Bure's number?
