When Twitter started to blow up with word of a groin issue for Isles man-of-glass Rick DiPietro, I kept my hands off the keyboard. I tried to find out if the news could be confirmed, but since team employees are not allowed to speak to players, I didn't have any luck.

Until tonight, when back on Twitter came a quote from DiPietro from Brett Cyrgalis of the NY Post. Of course it could be a lie, but Rick says he's fine and looking forward to another game. I'm pretty surprised he's looking forward to one since he hasn't done well in the few games he has played.

But I'm not here to jump on the Rick Bash Bandwagon. But there is something we should think about. Should we actually have a season, we can be assured that many players will fall victim to untimely stress injuries.

Groin injuries are always the most popular at the beginning of each new season, but add the lack of a September training camp and the daily routine and we are sure to have a problem with players missing time from an already shortened season.

So let's see what happens tomorrow when the NHL and the NHLPA get back together as it is rumored they have made some 'progress.' I will temper my enthusiasm since I am of the mind set that I will not be surprised if they scrap the season.

A season that will be tarnished by less than adequate hockey for sure.
