Just another night at the office for Mikhail Grigorenko.

The GrigShow scored the first goal of the 2012 Subway Super Series.

Grigorenko wasted little time burying his shot to give Russia the 1-0 lead over The "Q" all stars. The scoring play began off a turover in the Canada zone, when Grigo and his liney took off two on one through the neutral zone. The strong side winger held the puck long enough to give Grigo a chance to get into his scoring stance.... saucer through the slot found Grigo's tape for the quick catch and release. Top cheddar.

Hands of a surgeon. Sexy knee drop.

Nail Yakupov followed up Grigo's blast with a beauty of his own.

Not to be outdone, Nail Yakupov's mojo was workin' too

Gone are the days where Russia builds a team of average height and weight guys who can motor in the big ice and who get smooshed on the 200 by 85 foot ice surfaces of North America. As they proved at the World Juniors in Buffalo, and at the Canada-Russia Series this past Summer, the Russians are big, physical, highty skilled and can skate at 200_ km per hour, like full throttled Ferrari's on the Autobahn.

The Russians beat the body, and shut down Huberdeau, Dea, MacKinnin and the Quebec all stars. Russian goalie Vasilevsky was outstanding in stine walling the skilled Canadians.

No contest.

6-2 Russia.

The "Q" head coach, Andre Tourigny, lamented in th epostgame presser that he needs his best players to be his best players. Huberdeau and MacKinnon finished the game a minus-4 while Dea was a minus-3. Dreadful performance by the troika of Canadian stars. Credit Grigorenko, Zykov, and Zlobin for reducing the stars of the "Q" to pylons for most of Game 1. Talk about humbling experiences.

Game 2 of the series Wednesday night in Val D’Or.

“What that tells me is you can’t win when your best players are a minus-4, that’s what it tells me,” Tourigny said. “But it wasn’t bad intentions, they worked hard, they forced the play, they created turnovers. But they tried to stretch out their shifts and that’s what happens.", Tourigny said.
