The Albany Devils dropped their season opener on home ice yesterday when they took on the Manchester Monarchs and fell by a 2-1 score. Here are some notes on that as well as several New Jersey Devils players and prospects in action yesterday across leagues worldwide.

- Keith Kinkaid stopped 25-of-27 in the 2-1 loss to the Monarchs. After listening to Head Coach Rick Kowalsky's post-game interview, it sounded like he was one of the few bright spots for Albany.

- Ramon Hrabarenka, a 20-year old defenseman that was signed to an AHL contract a few weeks back, was plus-1, had a primary assist on the Devils' only goal and had two shots. When Hrabarenka first signed I didn't think much of it but when the lockout ends I expect Lou Lamoriello to give him a two-way contract. It is possible that he makes the jump to the NHL in the next year or two. Just another defenseman in Albany to keep your eye on.

- Jacob Josefson had four shots, Bobby Butler had three, Mattias Tedenby had one and Adam Henrique and Adam Larsson didn't register a shot or a point. There are your notable's.

- Ilya Kovalchuk scored a shorthanded goal and notched two assists in SKA St. Petersburg's 6-5 win yesterday. He now has 14 points in seven KHL games.

- Scott Wedgewood made his first professional start yesterday in Trenton. The Titans beat the Reading Royals 6-2 and he stopped 31-of-33. Not bad.

- Alexander Kerfoot had two assists last night in the BCHL. He now has 15 points in 10 games this season.

- Reid Boucher was minus-1 with two shots in Sarnia's 4-3 win over Niagara yesterday.

- Reece Scarlett was minus-1 in Swift Current's 6-3 loss to Portland. Graham Black had an assist in the loss and is now on a four-game point streak.

- Damon Severson was minus-1 in a 3-2 Kelowna loss to Victoria.

- Blake Coleman had three goals and an assist in two games for Miami Ohio this weekend. Good start to the season for him.

- Devils prospects in action tonight: Reid Boucher (Sarnia - OHL), Ben Johnson (Windsor - OHL), Ben Thomson (Kitchener - OHL), and Stefan Matteau (BLB Armada - QMJHL).
