Albany Devils Set for Season Opener + New Jersey Devils Prospect Notes

The Albany Devils are ready for their season opener as they are set to host the Manchester Monarchs, the Los Angeles Kings AHL affiliate, tonight at home.

Here are a few notes to get you set for that game as well as some notes on New Jersey Devils prospects from around the CHL.

- Some Devils and Kings players will be squaring off for the first time since Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final in June. Adam Henrique, Adam Larsson, Jacob Josefson and Slava Voynov are the four players playing in tonight's game who were on their respective NHL rosters during the Cup Final.

- I was exchanging tweets with Albany Devils beat writer Bill Cain yesterday evening and he told me expects Adam Henrique to center Matt Anderson on the top line with potentially Harri Posonen on the other wing. I'd have to imagine Josefson, Mattias Tedenby and perhaps Bobby Butler would be the Devils second line. If that's the case, I really like the fact Albany isn't stacking their top-line and making themselves more of a one-line team.

- Scott Wedgewood was assigned to the ECHL yesterday which means Keith Kinkaid and Jeff Frazee will be the goaltending duo in Albany - at least to start the season. While I love Wedgewood, I have no problem with the move. Kinkaid was going to be the starter regardless of who was behind him and Frazee is in a contract year so he's getting his last look from the team. If Frazee doesn't play well this year, Wedgewood will take his spot next year and if Frazee struggles a lot early this year, Wedgewood could be in the AHL by the end of the month. My point: Wedgewood needs some development time so a little bit of ECHL action won't hurt. Wedgewood will get a lot of looks from the Devils over the next few years while if Frazee doesn't play well this year he will no be retained.

- Now onto some CHL prospects. Ben Thomson did not get on the scoresheet last night in a 3-2 Kitchener loss to Kingston. After registering 42 points and over 120PIMs in 67 games last year, Thomson has gotten out to a slow start this year with just two assists and four penalty minutes in six games thus far.

- Reece Scarlett continues to produce for the Swift Current Broncos. He had two assists last night in a 3-2 Swift Current win over Regina and now has six assists in six games this year.

- Sticking with the Broncos, forward Graham Black scored in the 3-2 win. He now has eight points in eight games and is currently on a three-game point streak.

- Defenseman Damon Severson scored last night in a 4-1 Kelowna win over Victoria. That's five points in eight games on the year for Severson.

- Stefan Matteau did not play last night for BLB Armada as he was serving a one-game suspension.

- In action across the CHL tonight: Reid Boucher, Reece Scarlett, Graham Black and Damon Severson.
