NHLers Hurt in Europe: CBA Casualty

The NY Rangers worst nightmare has happened. Rick Nash sustained a shoulder injury during the first period of a game today in Europe. In other news, Jim Dolan sent Gary Bettman 100 text messages (that he ignored) while the Commissioner was behind closed doors with NHLPA head Don Fehr. Just kidding about the text messages.

Disturbing news for any team and the news I fear the most for our own superstar that has decided “he needs to play” so he’s heading to Switzerland. That would be John Tavares who will join Mark Streit early next week. Couldn't they wait a little longer? Streit has already been hurt once and we can't afford to have Tavares banged up at all if the season starts any time soon.

Wouldn’t it be really funny if the lockout ends some time next week and all these players who signed over seas have to play a few games there before they can be released to return to the NHL missing games here? Wouldn’t it? Okay, pipedream on my part.

But the two sides did meet today and will continue to do so over the weekend. Neither side will deem today’s meetings to be a success, but at least there is dialogue. When there is dialogue, sooner or later, there needs to be movement. Unlike the rantings of certain player agents, negotiations are a game of compromise and putting feelings aside. I am hopeful for both.

Tomorrow’s open Bridgeport Sound Tiger practice will be capped with a player signing with Casey Cizikas and David Ulstrom. Get there early if you’re going.

Nino Niederreiter will be wearing #22 for the BST. He said he’s happy to have that number back. Travis Hamonic will be wearing #3, but the logo will be different. There are already people asking if they can order a new Hamonic jersey. Can’t they just dust off his old one? Wasn’t he wearing #3 then?

I was wondering why all the photos of Ty Wishart make him look like he sticks out of the crowd. Ty is the second tallest player on the team at 6’4” tall. Only Andres Nilsson is taller -- by one inch!

I am looking forward to seeing Brock Nelson, Calvin deHaan and Aaron Ness. It’s almost like looking forward to seeing how much they’ve grown. I’ll try not to ask them to stand against the wall and measure up to the pencil mark from last year. In all honesty, we have been watching these young players for quite awhile now. However, truth be told, I am really going to miss Rhett Rhakshani.

If you would like to read about last night’s LITweetup for Island Harvest and check out my buddy, the fiction writer’s classic Delorean, please check out www.7thwoman.blogspot.com.

I will be heading to practice tomorrow and perhaps even Sunday. I’ll try to get at least something of value. I said TRY. Don’t push me.
