Three Questions for a Wednesday

-- Do you Simon Despres will spend the bulk of 2012-13 alongside Kris Letang?

-- Who will finish with more points, Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin?

-- Should Crosby and/or Malkin see more time on the penalty kill?

I dusted off this Evgeni Malkin interview taken in the summer of 2011. The chat is translated to English courtesy of RT Sports News from the UK.

Some thoughts & opinions by Malkin:

-- There’s no nightlife in Pittsburgh … and that’s good to concentrate on hockey.

-- Regarding Sidney Crosby: “He has no ego … helps me … no envy.”

-- Malkin misses his close friends from Russia, says he still doesn’t have those types of friends in US. He recently bought a house in Moscow where they can hang out.

-- Malkin says he about to turn 25 and has no intention of returning to Russia right now. That said, he could return in five, 10 years. Malkin says that who knows, KHL may become a stronger league than NHL.

Here’s what Sidney Crosby had to say about the Pens’ playoff loss to Philadelphia in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

“I tried thinking about it over the summer. Thinking about it didn’t do any good. You could go a long time before you ever see a series like that. We weren’t at our best, and we paid for it. If someone can explain that series, they know more than I do.”

Crosby took part in an informal team practice Tuesday and Wednesday with a little over a dozen teammates before departing to New York for the CBA meetings. He said he's healthy and others around him said it looked like he's put on a bit of muscle.

The Penguins Insider from the CitizensVoice.com interviewed defensive prospect Joe Morrow recently.

Morrow was asked what kind of defenseman fans can expect from him.

“An entertaining defenseman to watch. I like to have the puck on my stick. I like to slow down the play a little bit and do what I can with it, a little offense. Hopefully some hits. Mix in a physical aspect to my game. Just kind of well rounded, try not to make too many mistakes and get too many people to hate me in the crowd.”

The Penguins can use another blueliner who isn’t afraid to use the lumber. Morrow’s much more than a hitter, but it’s refreshing to know that he considers hitting as part as his repertoire.

Hall of Fame writer Dave Molinari brings up an interesting comparison between Eric Tangradi and Kevin Stevens in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

To put Tangradi's age into perspective, consider that Kevin Stevens -- who went on to become a 55-goal man in the NHL -- spent 45 games with Muskegon in the International Hockey League when he was 23.

The success Stevens had in subsequent seasons obviously doesn't guarantee that Tangradi has a few 50-plus goal seasons in his future, but Stevens' career arc reinforces the idea that bigger players sometimes need more time to develop than others.
