Here's a quick update on the rumors surrounding Winnipeg W Evander Kane and the Blackhawks. I heard from two sources last night, one in Winnipeg and the other close to the Hawks.

Between the two, it sounds as though the Jets want very much to sign Kane to a longer term deal, while Kane himself (by the sound of it) might like to be elsewhere. There's the rub.

The Hawks' role in this? I heard they have made an inquiry, but that Jets' GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is still trying to retain Kane. Further this source told me, as I have been hearing for weeks now, that the Hawks will likely make no moves of any significance until the CBA is resolved.

On Shane Doan, I heard again what I have heard for the last few weeks: the Hawks are out of the bidding.

Between the two, and especially if Winnipeg can't sign Kane, then you might see some movement on this (including possibly involving the Hawks—who have both interest and a bevy of prospects and younger players to deal) as the first snowflakes fall in Chicago.
