Orange & Blue & a Crashed Ferrari

The Islanders have chosen a theme for the 2012-2013 season and have incorporated it into their new look website.  That splash of paint and bright orange and blue signify the Islanders team embracing their best asset after the players -- the fans.  (I wonder if it's that Benjamin Moore paint they had the contest to name a few years ago... anyone?  No?  Yeah I remember the little stuff.)

Through thick and thin,  we've been there -- in our orange & blue.  So, I asked the team spokesman what the new theme and campaign really means to them and why they chose it.

"The concept of making the historic Islanders blue and orange colors the driving force behind this year's marketing, was to incorporate our lifeblood that stands and cheers for the Islanders every night, the fans. 'Orange & Blue + You' demonstrates the fact that Islanders fans are just as important an element of this organization as the players. Our marketing department did a great job of depicting that no matter who is wearing the team colors, we're all one."

Now, while I can't always wear my orange & blue where you can see it, I still do.  And when I'm not actually WEARING it, you can sense that I am.  Like.... when professional journalists write about the Islanders and their fans in the most disparaging ways.  While I should probably take the high road, and not say anything, the fan in me just can't stay still.

If you are not living this soap opera here on the Island, but only watching it far afar, I will take exception to your ideas to fix the league which include getting rid of a Stanley Cup dynasty franchise.   Yes, it's Orange & Blue and ME.  And you will hear from me every time you make blanket, erroneous statements regarding the Isles.  And I won't be the only one you'll hear from.

While some ill advised writers think no one cares about the NY Islanders, they soon find out we are a loud and proud lot.  We know our problems here.  Things are far from perfect, but when your idea of fixing them is to contract the team or move it to Canada, well you may find you have a line of angry Islander fans in their orange & blue jerseys waiting for you -- even if it is only on the Internet.

While that photo of me from two seasons ago is a little dark, I chose it because it was the day after Eric Cairns said to me "Orange & Blue; bleed it."  A voice behind the desk chirped "She does."

So do a lot of people.  So no matter what happens this season, it's Orange & Blue + US.

Along the boards:  So Lubomir Visnovsky totally demolished a Ferrari this weekend in a race in Slovakia.  According to reports from Garth Snow, he is fine and he did have the Islanders permission to participate.  I haven't been able to find out if he owned that car or just drove it.

I ask only because some of the translations saying he lost control.  Maybe he wasn't that familiar with the vehicle if it wasn't his.  But he's fine -- so far.  Although you usually feel worse the day after a car crash.  And from the looks of the front end of that one, I'd suggest a few Advil.... or six.
