Lavy's New Deal

Flyers extended Peter Laviolette 2 years today.

This would have been his last season. He now has 3 full years left. He is under contract through 2014-15.

If there is a lockout, he will be expected to perform certain tasks for the club much like Ken Hitchcock did (clinics, speaking, PR, etc.) during the 2004-05 lockout.

Lavy has actually won more games in his first, three years with the Flyers than Fred Shero did - 122 vs 113. Now, Shero, as I pointed out on CSNPhilly.com, had to work with a 78-game schedule back then while today's sked is 82.

However, when you consider that Lavy came to the Flyers in Dec. 2009 and only had 59 games to work with, it more than offsets the fewer games Shero coached his first, 3 years.
