Its July 16. Do you know where Shane Doan is?

Comes news today that the Pittsburgh Penguins are getting serious about getting a winger to ride shotgun with Sidney Crosby. The Pens have $10 million under their cap and are looking for a helper for #87.

Ray Shero missed out on Zach Parise so it seems highly likely and plausible to make sense that the Pens want Doan. TiVo back to last Friday when the rattle and hum was swirling regarding two Eastern conference teams who had made contract offers of 4 years and $30 million to Doan. Were the Pens one of the teams? Were the Sabres in the mix?

Yes and yes.

According to John Gambadoro of arizonasports.com, the Sabres are one of seven teams to have made an offer to Doan in the past week.

Today, Gambadoro tweeted:

Add Pittsburgh to the list so Coyotes Captain Shane Doan has received confirmed offers from LA, SJ, Vancouver, Detroit, Buffalo & Pittsburgh

Two other teams to report having made offers to Coyotes C Shane Doan - Buffalo & Detroit. And the New York Rangers are showing real interest

Doan is the EXACT player that the Sabres need right now in order to upgrade their scoring and leadership in the room and on the ice. In 1198 career NHL games, he's scored 318 goals and added 470 helpers. He's also scored 15 goals and added 18 assists in 55 career playoff games.

For you Doubting Thomases who think that Doan is a pipe dream and the Sabres are not on his radar screen, think again. Mr. Pegula is committed to building a Cup winning team in Buffalo. Losing out on Brad Richards last July 1 didn't sit well with the Sabres. They need to make a gargantuan acquisition if they want to be known as Hockey Heaven. Landing Doan will go a long way to re-branding the Sabres as a legit contender. I've been told that Teppo Numminen is friend of Doan and the two have reportedly talked about Buffalo as a wonderful place to raise a family.

I've heard from a source that Buffalo have made a four year offer, where other teams are offering 2-3 year deals for the trophy buck UFA of this Summer.

Highest bidder wins.
