Significant Offer To Doan

Just hearing the Hawks have made or are prepared to make a very significant offer to Shane Doan, both in terms of average annual value and term.

Without going into the specifics, both variables are likely at the high end of what any team would offer the free agent forward.

It remains to be seen whether the political situation in Phoenix will keep Doan with the Coyotes or not. But if not, again, and as predicted here, the Hawks have pulled out all the stops to land a major free agent prize this summer.

In other news, the Hawks hired former Canadiens, Ducks and Senators GM Pierre Gauthier as Director of Player Personnel (essentially head of scouting) yesterday. While it is fair to argue Gauthier's merits as a GM, his bona fides as a scout are actually fairly solid.

An announcement on Joel Quenneville's vacant assistant coach position is due any time now, and may come in the next day or two.

Early Prospect Camp reports on 2012 first round draft pick Teuvo Teravainen are very positive. Lining up at center, the 17 year old Finn has been dominant early.

Finally, just heard from a source that the Hawks are aggressively shopping a defenseman
named . . . Nick Leddy. Not 100% sure on this one, but doing some digging and should know more by tomorrow.

All for now.
