What can I say about the Rick Nash saga that hasn't already been said. The answer is nothing! What is sad with this entire story is the people reporting on it are either clueless about the situation, making up that they know something when they don't, trying to create a bad guy in the situation either with general manager Scott Howson or with Nash himself, naive to how basic negotiations transpire or all of the above.

Most of you have notice that I have written very little in regards to this entire situation. Mostly because I have seen this situation in the “real world” every day and don't thing there is much that's exciting about it. Let's see if you have seen this situation before.

Employee is hired by employer out of college. He's a hot shot top of his class type of employee full of potential and promise. The boss puts said top protege into a situation that he either is not ready for or doesn't have the skill set to handle. He has some success but the longer he is stroked by the organization the less consistent his work becomes.

On the other hand, just like the way management mishandled the top protege, they also mishandle several other things that turn a promising business into a struggling enterprise that has the competition using them like a door mat. Top protege feels he can never live up to all his promise at the current company and thus puts in his two weeks notice and tries to leave on as good of terms as possible.

This happens everyday in every corner of the world. Thus why to me it's not that unusual of a story with little intrigue. This story is just tired now. It's been massaged, reshaped and reworked so many different ways just to be able to fill space in a paper or on a website. This dead horse has been kicked to no end.

It's understandable why they do it because human beings are lazy by nature and this story is an empty netter. The stories almost write themselves. Just come up with a team, look at their roster, throw out some possible names that would be in on the deal. A player that Howson will have to have and also a player that the team they have chosen would never give up. Wala! Theirs your story. If you don't want to even work that hard you can go with, Howson should trade Nash now or Nash has tied the hands of the Blue Jackets with his list of teams.

Understandably fans really just want to know who they are going to cheer for. Unlike sports like the NBA where fans cheer more for individuals, NHL fans cheer for the crest on the front of the sweater no matter who's in the sweater. Due to this, fans are impatient by nature. Fan is short for fanatic and so the rage, frustration and the hanging on the word of every 14 year old boy in his mom's basement that says he has some kind of inside information about the situation is understandable.

Here's what is going to happen. Nash will be traded to team X for Y in return or he won't get traded and comes back to play the season or he believes it's better that he holds out and doesn't collect his $7.6 million he is due for the upcoming season or the team suspends him until they find a team willing to give them what Nash is worth.

So the next time you read some contrived story about how some person knows what's going to happen, know this. Howson nor Nash knows where he will end up. Yes they have an idea but until it's signed sealed and delivered, you never know.

Hall Duty

Prospect camp has three days in the books and thanks to Big Time Rush, the people covering the camp have been banished to the hallway in the bowels of Nationwide Arena. Due to that, I have titled by interviews with the prospects, “Hall Monitor.”
