According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the Maple Leafs and Rangers have been informed that they are out of the running for free agent defenseman Justin Schultz.

*******

The Leafs are preparing to move forward without winger Colby Armstrong.

The 29 year old winger is being bought out of the final year of his 3 year, $9 Million deal but will first have to clear waivers.

If he is not claimed by another team, the buyout will be spread out as a $1 Million hit against the cap over the next two seasons.

Via his Twitter account, Armstrong said "Thanks to the leaf nation for the support over the last couple seasons. Although I had tough luck thanks for everything."

After being effective in an injury shortened first season with the Leafs, the feisty winger fell off drastically in 2011-12, as a high ankle sprain and concussion problems limited him to 29 games and only 3 points.

The Leafs open up $2 Million in cap space with this move and will likely be spending it on a veteran winger to fill Armstrong's place.
