Rumors that leaked yesterday of the Hawks having interest in the Kings' Jonathan Bernier may have some legs. Because reports from the opposite coast have the Devils inquiring with the Hawks on a fairly significant offer for none other than . . . Corey Crawford.

More on this as I have it.

On the Niklas Hjalmarsson front, today could be the critical day, although certainly, the way things have gone lately, tomorrow or even Sunday, that situation could yet play out . . . if anything is going to happen.

Right now. I would put the odds of Hjalmarsson being dealt at about 60-40.

I still believe and am being told that the Hawks would like to move Hjalmarsson's salary and place in the top 4 if they are going make a serious move on Ryan Suter.

Another possibility is the Hawks would back-fill Hjalmarsson's loss with a less expensive, but similar player in free agency (like, say Scott Hannan), while gaining some value in return for the young Swedish blueliner.

There are persistent, albeit mostly dubious, rumors of the Hawks entertaining offers for Patrick Kane.

I am hearing from two good sources, however, that although the Hawks are, in fact, willing to listen to offers, it is "99%" certain Kane will start the season as a Blackhawk. I have been told by sources I don't know as well—going back weeks— one team that is keenly interested in acquiring Kane is the Montreal Canadiens, under ex-Hawk Assistant GM, Marc Bergevin. I have also heard the Canadiens would be willing to pay a high price for #88.

Hopefully, by Sunday afternoon, Wiz, Al Cimaglia and myself will have more—and more concrete things— to discuss on HawksBuzz With JJ, v. 1.1.
