Raymond

Raymond wanting out- there are rumours going around that Mason Raymond wants out. I don’t think this has anything to do with playing time, the city, the fans, coaching, how the organization has treated him, etc…

What I think this has to do with is business. Raymond wants a multi-year deal and Vancouver wants to give him one year at a reduced salary. I don’t think Raymond is looking for a raise. I think him and his agent are smart enough to know that 2.6 million is a more than fair salary (hell, even the 2.2 Vancouver wants to pay him is). But it wouldn’t surprise me if Raymond’s agent knows of a couple of teams around the league that would give his client a 3-4 year deal. That deal may only be for 2 million per, but isn’t 8 million for 4 years better than 2.2million and an uncertain future. That’s where I think the rumours of him wanting out are coming from.

Lindback Thoughts

Love the move by TB.

With Lindback being dealt yesterday, does that increase or decrease the Value of Luongo? I’m thinking Gillis has a price for Lu and he won’t budge off of it. I believe he wants a player that can help Vancouver now and a pick or prospect. If he doesn’t get that, I’m guessing we will see Luongo back in Vancouver.

And if Lindback is worth two seconds and a third, what is Schneider/Lu worth? My guess would be a first and a player.

I’m also watching closely to see what Lindback gets in terms of contract. I believe he will be the first domino that sets the RFA goalies in motion. I’m guessing Lindback signs first, Rask second, Schneider third, and Price fourth. As far as Bernier goes, I have no idea when he’ll sign. If the Kings held out on Doughty last year, there’s a pretty good chance that they could care less, when it comes to signing their backup.

Aaron “Freaking” Volpatti

Love the way he plays and love the signing. In my opinion, the toughest player in the Canucks locker room and I would be fine if the fourth line was Duco/Lappy/Volpatti. While I still think Vancouver could use more size on that line, I do like the fact that all three of those guys never pass up a chance to hit. If Volpatti and Duco have good camps, they deserve to be on Vancouver’s fourth line.

And what Canucks fan does not like seeing a little more of this on the team

Gillis

Gillis was on the Team1040 yesterday and really didn’t say much. He’s not talking about Lu, but there is interest across the league in Luongo. He said there is 18 number one goalies in the league and he considers Luongo to be one of them. When asked if the Lightning acquiring Lindback would take them out of the Running for Lu, Gillis said, “No”. How I interpreted that is, Tampa Bay way never interested in Luongo. I guess Stevie Y was telling the truth.

The other thing that surprised me was Gillis doesn’t see the draft being all that busy. He thinks there will be more of a market after free agency when the dust settles. That was an interesting statement to me because I would think that any team making a big move would want that in place in order to help lure UFA’s. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Well that’s a wrap.

Five Hole For Food

Five Hole For Food is coming to a town near you this summer. For those of you that don't know, the concept was brought forward by some friends in Vancouver, who decided they would travel the country setting up street hockey games. The price to play in the game is a can of food or donation to the local food bank.

To date Five Hole for Food has raised over 70,000 pounds of food for food banks and is continuing the fight against hunger all over North America!
