Rumor: Jordan Staal + for Keith Yandle, a Second and a Third..

Quick hit rumor...I have been tracking this for around a week now but now I am getting more and more people telling me about it.

There have been several rumors surrounding Jordan Staal in the past few weeks. The Sabres are very interested in Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes have interest as well...I have also one source telling me Dallas is interested...and those are just the teams we have heard about.

Of course, as most of you will point out, who WOULDN'T be interested in Jordan Staal, right?

Well of course, while everyone would love to have a player like Staal, not everyone is willing to part with what is needed nor has the piece the Penguins want. Buffalo and Carolina, from what I hear, both have the pieces...

Ok, all that aside, let's get to the rumor at hand then on this absolutely beautiful day in Southern California.

Three people have told me about aspects of this

"Hearing Jordan Staal and prospect for Keith Yandle, a #2 this year, and a #3 next year (should Staal extend)"

That's the rumor, take it or leave it.

My Take on this....

For Phoenix, who is in desperate need of a center, this makes a ton of sense. The Coyotes are also extremely deep on defense with more coming as they are just loaded with defensive prospect..so the idea they would trade a top d-man for a top center is hardly crazy.

For Pittsburgh, who has already addressed their glaring need for a backup goalie with Vokoun, the need on defense is huge as well. There have been various rumors that Staal isn't happy being a third line center forever and he could go to Phoenix and be the guy for sure.

The only issue I have with this deal... Is Yandle the right kind of D-man for the Penguins needs? As you all know, I am a huge fan of Keith's but over the past few years he has been evolving into much more of an offensive defensman and the play in his own zone has suffered. The Penguins need help in their own zone.

What is your take?
