Quick Hits: Kings down Devils, Roy out, is Therrien in?

Wow, what a game last night! If you missed it, it was another close, low-scoring match between the Devils and Kings. L.A. continued their road dominance, winning a record 10th straight time on the road in these playoffs.

The Kings did it in style too, with Jeff Carter potting the winning in the first OT for a 2-1 victory.

Kings' goalie, Jonathan Quick, continues to be dominant, matching veteran Martin Brodeur stop for stop.

As I wrote about last week, I don't see how Quick won't end up winning the Conn Smythe trophy. Despite heroics from several players on both teams, Quick's play has been above and beyond.

If he had played just an average game last night the Devils could have taken the decision.

Instead, they find themselves in the dubious position of having lost both opening games on home ice. Now, down 2-0 in the series, the Devils must win four of the remaining five games, including three in Los Angeles.

Apparently the stat is that only 13 percent of teams losing the first two games of the Stanley Cup final, have ever gone on to win.

It could happen but the way the Kings are playing, I don't see it happening.

Coaching Update

Well, if you haven't heard by now, RDS is reporting that Patrick Roy is now officially out of the running to become the next coach of the Canadiens.

This a mere 24 hours or so, after reporting that he was still in play.

Apparently, Roy doesn't feel great about the situation he'd be coming into, in Montreal. Also, he's more than happy working with the Quebec Ramparts and would rather stay there.

To be honest, I think that while, at some point in time, Roy could and perhaps should coach the Habs, I don't think that time is now.

Montreal needs experience behind the bench. NHL experience, and Roy, for all the good things he has done, just doesn't have it.

And that brings us to Michel Therrien, a man that the group on RDS' L'Antichambre has been campaigning for real hard lately.

If you had the misfortune of watching the show yesterday, as I did, they had an expert in corporate communication on the panel, a spent most of the show asking him how the Habs were going about making their decision.

While I see this man (whose name escapes me) with corporate experience being able to shed a little light on the situation, by his own admission, running a company is nothing like running a sports team.

I don't know, to me, it was reaching.

That being said, there is speculation that Michel Therrien will be named the next coach, and that that decision could come as soon as Tuesday.

We'll see how that works out but, for what it's worth, I am not a fan of hiring Therrien, for all of the reasons I laid out last week.

But hey, the decision is not up to me.

What about you? Would you be happy or upset with a Therrien hiring?
