Western Conference Quarterfinals Predictions + Ducks Lose Draft Lottery

Just a quick Anaheim Ducks note before my predictions.

The NHL held the draft lottery last night and of course the Oilers won. They will draft first for the third consecutive season - hardly seems fair.

Anyway, that means the Ducks stay put with the sixth pick. I suspect Anaheim will draft a player that fits an organizational need rather than the best player available. Just my thought.

The draft will be held June 22-23 at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

Western Conference:

Vancouver Canucks (1) vs. Los Angeles Kings (8)

I hope for the City of Vancouver's sake, the Canucks don't go back to the Stanley Cup Finals. However, they are the Presidents Trophy winners for a reason - they are good...real good. Can Jonathan Quick and the Kings pull the upset? I say no, Canucks in 6.

St. Louis Blues (2) vs. San Jose Sharks (7)

The Blues remind of the mid 90's New Jersey Devil and defense wins championships, Blues in 5.

Phoenix Coyotes (3) vs. Chicago Blackhawks (6)

The Coyotes are the NHL's version of a zombie. All of us thought the franchise was dead at the conclusion of last season, but like a zombie they rose from the dead stronger and more hungry. Unfortunately, Chicago has a bullet pointed right at this zombie's brain. Blackhawks in 7

Nashville Predators (4) vs. Detroit Red Wings (5)

I like Nashville. It would be a great story if they could put together a long run but the face the Red Wings in the first round. The Preds may have played them tough in the regular season but this is the playoffs and this were Detroit thrives. Toughest series for me to call but I have to go with experience and tradition. Red Wings in 7.
