A Point in Boston; Now Penguins

BOSTON - The Flyers didn't win a shootout in the afternoon - they can't win in the afternoon period _ but they picked up a valuable point in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Bruins.

And they had to do it without Max Talbot and Andreas Lilja, both of whom were injured.

Talbot has a right shoulder injury and we believe Lilja was struck in the throat off a deflected shot. Both are questionable for Sunday's matinee against the stinging hot Penguins.

I liked that the Flyers showed a lot of comeback grit in this game here. But they'll need a lot better at the start to stay with the Penguins, who are embarrassing clubs right now.

“I remember that game back home against [Boston] where they scored a couple early goals and we just kinda packed it in," Danny Briere told me.

"I’m proud of the way guys kept fighting today and going into the though areas to pay the price in the second and third period.”

Said defenseman Kimmo Timonen, “We didn't play really well in the first period, but I thought we played well the second and third. I think actually we deserved one point, at least.

“It was a pretty good hockey game after the first period was over — that wasn't very good, but the second and third was a good effort by everybody. It's too bad we couldn't get another point from the shootout.”

The last time the Penguins had an 11-game win streak they came into Philly on Dec. 14, 2010 with Sidney Crosby and lost.

They are going it again tomorrow. And Sid is back, too.

“You watch the highlights and you see they’re getting points every night and you see the highlights of how they play,” Scott Hartnell said.

“We see them enough during the year where it’s not gonna be a surprise. This team’s playing good. We’re gonna need to be focused. We’re gonna have to skate and that’s probably our biggest thing.

“When we skate and work together we’re a really tough team to beat. We’re on pucks. Getting the pucks going on to them. We’re gonna have to do that tomorrow for 60 minutes if we want to win.”

Jaromir Jagr thinks the Flyers match-up well, but then again, we don't know where this team stands on Talbot and Lilja's availability.

“It's going to be good challenge for us,” Jagr said. “They got Crosby back. I guess we're going to find out where we are. We played them pretty good two games. We lost the last one. They got a lot of scoring power. We gotta be careful. But I like our chances.”

Flyers have not made a decision on whether they will recall d-man Brandon Manning from the Phantoms.

Line of the day from Jagr on Flyers inability to win in the afternoon.

“Maybe we don’t like daylight,” Jaromir Jagr joked. “We like to play at night ... Maybe we should come just five minutes before the game.

“Try something else. Maybe we should skip the warm-up and just surprise them somehow. They would said, 'Oh, they didn't show up,' then we start.”
