Cody Hodgson wants badly to score his first goal as a Sabre. He has two new line mates in Vanek and Leino to help him to generate chances and goals.

Lindy's expecting a hard hockey game tonight from Kevin Dineen's Florida Panthers

I like that the Sabres are allowing the players to bring their Moms on this road trip to Florida. Gotta perform well in front of Mom.

Updated 11:41am EDT:

John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports that Reggie Sekera will play tonight. The odd D man out will be Brayden McNabb, not Mike Weber. Not sure I like the move to sit McNabb, what with Weber being a bit of a liability in his own end in recent games.

Per NHL rules, McNabb must sit as he was an "emergency" call up. meaning, when Sekera returns to good health, McNabb must sit down.

Nathan Gerbe will sit out his second straight game tonight.

I spoke with Nate at the rink on Friday and he told me that "its not my decision" as to whether he will play in Sunrise vs. Panthers.

Here are your line trios at the morning skate:

Tropp-Roy-Pommer
Foligno-Ennis-Stafford
Vanek-Hodgson-Leino

Gerbe joined the skate after the team took the ice. he's the extra forward.

After Friday's practice in Buffalo, Brayden McNabb packed his hockey bag and skooted off to the airport for the charter to Sunrise Florida. McNabb was an emergency recall from Rochester after Tyler Myers was suspended for his hit on Scott Gomez on Monday night.

Five locker stalls away from McNabb's in the Buffalo room, Andrej Sekera was talking with media about his recent bout with pneumonia. Sekera skated on Friday, without a red non-contact sweater, and he should be ready to roll in Sunrise. Sekera missed the last five game as his body was waging war against pneumonia. Sekera says that he feels a helluva lot better now than he did a week ago when the Sabres were preparing to play the Ottawa Senators.

The Sabres have eight Dmen with them on this Florida trip right now. Myers, Ehrhoff, Regehr, Leopold, Sekera, McNabb, Weber, Sulzer are all on the trip. Myers cannot play as he is still serving time on his three game suspension.

Question of the day:

Lindy Ruff and James Patrick have a tough decision to make.

Sit Weber to play Sekera?

Personally, were it my decision to make, I'd sit Weber and play Sekera and McNabb.

Weber has had moments of confusion in his game lately, like this major league that led to Jamie McGinn's game tying goal with 1.9 seconds remaining in regulation Buffalo on Wednesday night. Landeskog blew clean and clear through the Buffalo forwards and Weber became the last line of defense. You'll notice that Weber was overwhelmed by the speed of the Swedish rookie sensation and he granted free access to Ryan Miller's crease as a result.

Lindy Ruff talked about his crowded blue line on Friday morning. Curious "no comment" by the coach when asked about Weber's breakdown on the McGinn goal.

Here's my take on tonight's starting six D:

Regehr-Sekera
Ehrhoff-Sulzer
McNabb-Sulzer

I'd sit Weber tonight. McNabb played well enough vs. Colorado and I think his physicality will help against the Panthers. I feel like Sulzer has been a breath of fresh air and he is playing well for the Sabres since joining the Sabres at the trade deadline.

The Sabres enter their game in Sunrise on Saturday night in tenth place in the Eastern Conference.

Dustin Byfuglien's goal midway through the third period gave the Jets an impressive 3-2 regulation with against the Washington Capital on Friday night. Byfuglien crashed the net and scored the GWG as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Friday to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The bad news is that the Sabres drop from ninth place to tenth place.

The good news is the Jets won in regulation, hence, there is no third point to be used against Buffalo.

Winnipeg (34-29-8) moved into ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 76 points, one point ahead of idle Buffalo.

Washington (36-29-6) retained eighth spot in the conference, however, are now only two points ahead of the Southeast Division-rival Jets.

The loss halted Washington's four-game winning streak.

The Caps now have 78 points, the Jets 76, and the Sabres 75.

To add insult to injury, the boisterous and passionate Jets fans chanted "Crosby's Better" nearly every time Alexander Ovechkin touched the puck.

The Sabres will have to win in Sunrise on Saturday night in order to vault up and over the Jets.

Where is the justice in the NHL these days?

On Tuesday, Sabres D Tyler Myers was suspended for three games for boarding Scott Gomez of the Habs, causing injury. Brndan Shanahan ruled that Myers' hit was the type of hit that the NHL is trying to eliminate, thus the suspension.I feel like Myers should only have gotten one game for the Gomez hit.

On Friday night, Shanahan suspended Jeff Skinner of the Hurricanes for KICKING and opponent. Two games is all you get for kicking an opponent?

What a crock of s^^t!

Myers gets three for a questionable boarding call, while Skinner only gets a deuce for the kick on Nichols.

Shanahan's decision making process is a case study in abnormal psychology.
