The Sabres lost twice in Boston. They lost 3-1 on the scoreboard. They lost Thomas Vanek to injury.

Game tied 1-1, third period, the Sabres lost their momentum and their 24 goal scorer in one fell swoop.

Jason Pominville25th goal of the season gave the Sabres the 1-0 lead early in the first period.

They held it in check until the 18:09 mark of the second period when Christian Ehrhoff's routine breakout pass from the Buffalo zone went FUBAR when it hit Cody Hodgson's skate. Bruins slugger, Shawn Thornton, jumped on the loose puck and then blasted the puck at Enroth. Gregory Campbell re-directed the puck behind Enroth, who was outstanding to that point in the game. After a video review to check if Campbell had touched the puck with a high stick, the goal was ruled a good hockey goal and the score was tied at 1s with a buck fifty one left in the period.

The Bs took the lead for good when Johnny Boychuk beat Enroth through a three-man Sabres screen at 12:56 of the third period. Boychuk's goal broke the tie.

All Lindy Ruff would say after the 3-1 loss to Boston is that Thomas Vanek has suffered an upper body injury. Shoulder.

Johnny Boychuk was the perpetrator of Vanek's injury. Again. Vanek was wrecked by a clean, open ice hit as he had his eyes on the puck. Boychuk's hit served as a half keg of Red Bull that energized his team mates and the Boston crowd, too.

Yes, Sabres fans. THAT Johnny Boychuk whacked your guy. AGAIN!

You'll recall it was Boychuk, one and the same, who ended Vanek's playoffs back in the first round series between Buffalo and Boston in 2010.

Jhonas Enroth deserved a better fate as he made two mitts full of difficult saves against the Bruins, like this beauty on Seguin

The Buffalo (70 points) loss, coupled with the Washington (72 points) OT win over Tampa (69 points) drops Buffalo to 10th place.

Winnipeg (70 points) lost at Vancouver.

No harm done.
