A few days ago, Kyle Quincey was traded from Colorado to Tampa Bay to Detroit. The trade left Tampa Bay with two first round picks in this coming draft. One of the picks likely being a top 10 pick, and the other being around the 25-30 range.

Tonight, Columbus traded forward Jeff Carter to the Kings. This trade left the Blue Jackets with two picks in this upcoming draft. One pick being a top 5 pick and the other likely being in the 13-19 range.

Now it’s no secret that both of these teams want Cory Schneider badly. Both these teams are trying to put together the assets to land the Rock Steady Redhead. I also think that if you look at what the Av’s gave up for Varlamov, Gillis is likely looking for a minimum of two1st’s for Schneider at the draft. I also think the Carter trade signals that the Blue Jackets want Schneider. If they really wanted Bernier, I’m sure they could have worked him into the Carter deal by giving up a pick or something else. By not including Bernier I think it’s pretty clear that Howson has no interest in Bernier.

I believe that Howson wants Schneider and only Schneider. All these Rumors for Bernier, Harding, Lindback, Rask, etc. are just a smoke screen to hopefully drive the price on Schneider down. Howson gave Gillis a major tell tonight by not getting Bernier in the deal and I believe Gillis has him right where he wants him.

Now I’m not sure when Gillis will deal Schneider, but my money is on him getting moved at the draft. Both the Blue Jackets and Lightning have the pieces in place to land Schneider at the draft. When the Lightning added a second 1st, they added what Vancouver would be looking for to get Schneider. The Blue Jackets tonight added a piece that put them ahead of the Lightning in what I am now calling the “Schneider Sweepstakes”.

This jockeying for Schnieder services will make every move that these two teams make fun to watch.

Where do you think Schneider will end up?

Thanks for reading.
Enjoy your night.
Ian

P.S. I’ll have a re-cap of this awesome game tomorrow morning.
