We have a trade to announce...

Bob McKenzie (the real one) is reporting on Twitter that the Avs have acquired Steve Downie from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Downie is in the last year of his contract paying him $1.85 million after which he will be a restricted free agent. Downie is a 5'11 191 pound player with some grit and some finish around the net when paired with the right people.

Downie will stick up for teammates, fight, do all the dirty things (sometimes suspension dirty) that a team needs to do.

With this trade, the Avs didn't get a 20-30 goal scorer but they got a second or third line player who will hit, kill penalties and play really aggressive.

Still waiting word on what the Avs gave up but this signals the end of Cody McLeod's playing days in Colorado as Downie plays the same game but better.

More to come...

McKenzie is reporting it is Quincey for Downie

Updated part 2: Quincey is reportedly traded to Detroit, where he started his career for a first round pick. Not sure this is all computing.
