Tuesday was Lindy Ruff's rest and recovery day. Looks and sounds like he'll be back inside his comfy confines inside First Niagara Center on game day.

The Sabres are on the ice at First Niagara Center at this hour.

Assistant coach, James Patrick, is running the session while Lindy Ruff stays off the ice. Ruff suffered broken ribs when he smashed into from behind by Jordan Leopold during a 1-on-1 drill that went horribly wrong when the Buffalo D-man blew a tire and spun out of control.

Sabres GM Darcy Regier about to address media regarding the status of injured head coach Lindy Ruff

12:06pm:

Darcy Regier just met with the media at First Niagara Center.

The Sabres GM says that Lindy Ruff is recovering at home and that James Patrick will run the team and the bench when Lindy is away. Does tight?his mean that "Jeep" will be driving the team when Boston comes to town on Wednesday night?

There is a thought that D assistant, Teppo, would move down from the press box to the bench to replace Ruff, while Ruff coaches the Boston game from the Sabres box on press row. Ruff would wear the McDonald's drive thru head set to communicate with his lieutenants on the bench.

You'll recall that New Orleans saints head coach, Sean Payton, blew out his knee when he was injured by an out of control player collision during a game this past season. Payton ran the show from the press box and his team didn't miss a beat.

Perhaps a night or two in the press box will do Ruff some good.

Said Patrick:

"I know it's killing him (Lindy). It's killing him because he's the pulse and heartbeat of the team. He's our leader, and he feels... I mean he's in a lot of pain -- but he feels sick that he can't be here."

Regier on the absence of Ruff:

"My concern is he won’t be able to yell at the guys."

Regier said that Ruff had only four hours of sleep last night and that he communicated to Patrick, Adams, and Teppo by way of conference call this morning.
