Game day vs Hawks

There aren't many teams that the Flames struggle more against than the Chicago Blackhawks and, thanks to Sam Gagne channeling Wayne Gretzky for a night, there probably isn't a team in a worse mood right now than said Hawks. It's often considered to be a boon when your opponent plays the previous night. When that opponent gets shellacked, however, it may change the stakes just a little. Hopefully the Flames can find a way to extend the Hawks misery tonight, but it certainly won't be easy.

One of the great "feel-good" stories in recent memory continues tonight as local product Krys Kolanos will start his first game as a Flame. His story is one that had him outside of hockey looking for a way back in and the Flames organization gave him a sliver of a chance by offering him a try-out with Abbotsford. Well, since then he's exceeded everyone's expectations but his own and he'll suit up tonight. There's a great story by Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald here if you want to read about his journey.

Tonight will be the last meeting between the two clubs this season and the Hawks hold a 2-1 advantage right now but the good news for Flames fans is that Calgary was able to win their game at home and hope to be able to repeat that feat tonight.

Miikka Kiprusoff will become the Flames all-time leader in games played as a goalie if he gets the start tonight. That being said, if he doesn't get the start tonight, it will mean something has gone seriously wrong...

The Flames don't even have a single shorthanded goal this season... Kind of an odd stat.

The Flames record when leading after two is an impressive 15-0-3. What that means is that they haven't been leading after two periods enough.

In the last 10 games between the Flames and Hawks, the Flames record is just 3-7-0 and the Hawks have won 3 of the last 4. The good news, though, is that the Flames have been able to win the last 3 at the Dome, which incidentally are the only 3 wins the Flames have in their last 10 vs the Hawks in Calgary.

Brendan Morrison is in town for his first time as a Hawk. He played 12:55 last night and was an even player.

The Hawks are 7-3-1 in the second game of back-to-back scenarios.

Have a great day!
