I asked Claude Giroux after the SuperSkills competition on Saturday if there was anything that happened that blew him away.

He was quick to respond. It was Boston's Zdeno Chara, breaking his own record a couple of times in the Hardest Shot with a clocking 108.8 MPH.

“When you see [Zdeno] Chara going that way and shoot that puck – what was it – 108?” Giroux asked. “It’s pretty impressive when someone can shoot the puck like that. I don’t know if I can shoot 90. That’s pretty impressive.”

Here's what Chara had to say to CSNNE's Joe Haggerty:

“Sometimes you don’t look at the exact numbers and you just want to win. I was very fortunate that besides winning I could push the record really high up,” said Chara.

"It was great. The standing ovation is always very much appreciated. I was glad I could break the record here in Ottawa where I played and spent some great years.”

Chara would like to hit 110 MPH.

“We’ll see…that’s my motto. Every season when I step on the ice I’m trying to do better and improve,” he said.

“It was a great feeling. I didn’t see the number until I peeked over the guys because the radar was late picking up numbers. When I saw 108.8 I was surprised, but also very happy.”
