It was good to see the players have fun with the real-life fantasy draft at the NHL All-Star game. The draft went predictably, though, with each team captain selecting teammates from their current NHL team, the five Swedish participants all just so happening to wind up on Team Alfredsson with all three participating Slovaks in Team Chara, etc.

I was glad for Scott Hartnell that he wasn't picked last. Oh, and I'd take either Jamie Benn or Logan Couture on my real-life NHL team ahead of some guys who went before them.

I have zero rooting interest in the All-Star Game, but I always hope to see the Flyers' participants get on the scoresheet. It would also be nice to see Sean Couturier and Matt Read (both assigned to Team Alfredsson) do well in tomorrow's skills competition.

There have been several midseason reviews of the Flyers that say the Flyers have been winning despite subpar goaltending from Ilya Bryzgalov. That is false. Teams rarely win in spite of subpar goaltending/team D (which inevitably start to feed into one another before too long). Bryzgalov and the Flyers have been no exception.

In Bryzgalov's 19 wins, he's given the Flyers what they want/expect of him: 2.08 GAA and .929 SV%. Unfortunately, in his 14 losses, he's definitely been part of the problem, with a 4.27 GAA and .843 SV%.

The real issue has been Bryz's inconsistency, not that he's been routinely lousy when he goes out on the ice.

As for Sergei Bobrovsky, in Bob's 12 wins, the second-year goaltender has a 1.73 GAA and .937 SV%. In his 7 losses, it's a 3.70 GAA and .891 SV%. Games like the loss to the Islanders last week -- where the goalie performs at a spectacular level and the team still loses convincingly -- don't happen too often nowadays. That game was all on the Flyers' loose defense and inability to score against Evgeni Nabokov.
