The Thursday Comebacks Continue

Comebacks are becoming the Thursday night story in Smashville as the Nashville Predators spotted the Colorado Avalanche a two goal first period lead… then came roaring back to take a 3-2 overtime decision. For the fifth time in six Thursday games, the Preds came from behind to take two points. Who can explain it?

Last night’s win solidified the team’s hold on sixth in the West, the Central Division remains tightly packed as the Preds trail Detroit by three, St. Louis by four and Chicago by five points.

David Legwand came up big one more time, getting the Preds on the board with a timely goal, then getting the game winner. Legwand takes a lot of heat from fans sometimes, but it needs to be said… he is having a career season and has become the kind of player the team envisioned when they made him the franchise’s first ever draft pick. He has always had a knack for the big, dramatic goal… but now it seems he’s doing it more and more.

The sellout streak at the Bridge is done, the weather last night hampered walkup and attendance came in around 200 short of a sellout. A new one will begin tomorrow night as the Broad Street Bullies come to town. Very limited tickets are available as of this writing, but I do not expect them to last the day.

Random Notes

- Pekka Rinne was thanking Legwand and Sergei Kostitsyn after the game was tied for bailing him out. Rinne gave up a couple of softies in the first to put the team down 2-0.

- Kostitsyn’s goal was simply sick… a little toe drag, a little dangle and a twisted wrister beating JS Giguerre top shelf.

- It appears that the Flyers have a new number one goaltender. Wasn’t the signing of Ilya Bryzgalov supposed to fix the situation between the pipes in Philly? Expect to see Sergei Bobrovsky in net tomorrow night.

- Talk about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, Mike Cammalleri was traded during the game last night from Montreal to Calgary… maybe a new start may help him, and Rene Bourque, who was sent to Montreal.

- The interesting thing about the Cammalleri trade, is the other GM’s that have made it be known that they would have been interested. You do wonder if Habs GM Pierre Gauthier could’ve gotten a better deal.

- You keep hearing the name James van Riemsdyk mentioned in trade banter around the league. I really wonder if the Flyers will move him.
