Avs start early, lose late

On the second game of a home-and-home series with the Nashville Predators, the Avs played the mirrored version of their first game.

In the first game, the Avs did not play in the first period but played well in periods two or three. In this game, they only played the first period.

After being handed, in Ryan O'Reilly's case, literally, a 2-0 lead the Avs let off the gas and let the Predators back in the game. They got more shots (15) in the first period than they did the rest of the game (14).

Jean-Sebastien Giguere was a good stopgap to the team for two periods, surrendering three goals on 35 shots but the team stopped skating in front of them. The Avs are not good enough to not skate or work or use their energy.

When grinder T.J. Galiardi is on your top six scoring line, you're not talented enough to not skate. Especially against the Predators, one of the hardest-working teams, you have to outwork them. You won't outskill them.

Despite the loss the play of the Peter Mueller was encouraging. The coaches didn't push him too hard too fast and limited him to 13:10. In that time he had 5 shots, great speed and was fully engaged in the play.

Mueller looked more like his old self than he ever did in times before. He used his speed to get into the soft shooting zones. Only the goaltending of Pekka Rinne kept him off the scoreboard.

The Avs are now winless in three games and have not played a 60 minute game since the 4-0 shutout of the Chicago Blackhawks. They have to play better because the next two games are against players right near them in the standings.

Three Stars

1. David Legwand- scored two goals, including the OT winner
2. Ryan O'Reilly- two points for Radar
3. Jean-Sebastien Giguere- kept the Avs afloat in the game

Facepalm of the Game
Kyle Quincey could not have watched more of the game-winning goal. After Legwand juked Stefan Elliott Quincey watched Legwand shoot and then watched him put it in his net. Bravo Quincey. Great defense.

Rinne wins for Nashville for passing it to Ryan O'Reilly for the game's first goal.

Bang Bang play of the Game

Andrei Sergei(sorry reading too much Habs stuff lately, for some reason) Kostitsyn wins for his snipe between the legs of defenseman Ryan Wilson for the game-tying goal. Beautiful shot.
