My Rant on Hartnell

There are not many things Scott Hartnell and I agree on.

He likes to get edgy with me and I like to reciprocate. In the absence of Chris Pronger, Hartsy is the only guy in the dressing room to spar with these days.

But I truly believe he got royally shafted today when the NHL announced the remainder of its All-Star Team.

In virtually any given season, Scott Hartnell is not going to be an impact player that truly makes a difference on the Flyers. There are too many other player to fill that role.

But on this team, this season, and the kind of career season is having, Hartnell is making an impact and that's why he should have been chosen - 37 points in 41 games.

He is an All-Star on these Flyers and this may be the first and last time that happens. And that's why he should have been chosen.

What Scott Hartnell ISN'T is ... he's not Alex Ovechkin. There is none of that TV glamour and marketability that the NHL wants to sell nationally with a Hartnell.

And that's why Ovie gets to go and Hartnell doesn't even though Ovie's season is rather poor by his standards.

Peter Laviolette was right when he said earlier this week in Raleigh that it would be "criminal" if Hartnell weren't on the roster.

Damn, if it didn't happen.

You can get some Flyer reaction from CSNPhilly.com colleague Sarah Baicker, who is on the Island with the Flyers today:
