Random Notes

- The big news in Pred Nation yesterday was the return of Shea Weber to practice. Weber was on the ice for the entire practice yesterday at A-Game Sportsplex however his contact was extremely limited. In his post-practice comments, Head Coach Barry Trotz said that Weber’s status is still up in the air. A lot will depend on how he feels today.

- Colin Wilson was also on the ice yesterday after being scratched from the last two games with an upper-body injury.

- An overflow crowd was in attendance at the Preds practice session, the team has done an annual practice out at A-Game for the last few seasons.

- The team is looking for a franchise record 7th straight sellout tomorrow night against Dallas. Tickets are available and tomorrow is also a College Night, where presenting a college ID at the box office gets you a great deal on tickets.

- Plenty of tongues wagging about the ratings for the Winter Classic. Hmmm, let me see… the game was in the afternoon (versus last year’s night game,) the game was held on January 2nd, and a 2.6 is still a great rating. Jeeze people, do we have to pick apart every little detail? One year of a slight decline in ratings does not mean the sky is falling.

- At the WJC, a disappointing loss for Team Canada as they dropped a 6-5 decision to Russia. Team USA avoided relegation yesterday with their win.

- Preds prospects at the WJC have been doing well, Austin Watson had a hat trick yesterday for Team USA, bringing his stats up to a 3g, 6a and a +6. Miikka Salomakii, playing for Team Finland has posted a +1 with 3g and 3a. Salomaki will be playing in the Bronze medal game as Team Finland will be taking on Team Canada.

- As the Coyotes Turn takes another spin, now the word seems to be Seattle. Makes perfect sense, automatic rivalry with Vancouver, travel reduction for that conference and the NHL will be the only game in the market after football season…

- Speaking of franchise sales, the NHL has terminated the purchase agreement for the St. Louis Blues. Matthew Hulsizer has failed for a second time to acquire an NHL team.

- Montreal head coach Randy Cunneyworth knows his priorities to keep his job and apparently it is not winning… it’s learning to speak French. Sheesh…
