1st Period:

Sabres look like the team that played last night in Chicago, flew into Buffalo and went to sleep at 4am! Damn. Slow start against a tired team.

9:57 left in the first period. We're scoreless. shots on goal: Oiler 10, sabres 2.

* Mike Weber took early trip. Miller and Killers negated Oiler PP

***

1-0 Oilers

Taylor Hall busts down the left wing wall with puck on blade, winds and shoots wrister at Miller from left circle. No scree. clean goal.

Hall's 12th goal on EDMs 12th shot of period.

Sabres on their heels.

***

Scouts o'plenty in the house tonight. washington, Florida, Detroit, Toronto, NY Rangers, NY Islanders, Chicago, Winnipeg, St. Louis, San Jose, Colorado, Philly, Nashville, Dallas, and Boston.

***

1-1

Jason Pominville scores his 13th of the season from Hecht and McNasty.

***

Oilers owned Buffalo for the first half of the period when Lindy had Vanek and Pommer on separate lines. After the Hall goal, the Sabres nutted up and pushed back.

SOG: 14-8

***

2nd Period:

2-1 Sabres

Brayden McNabb wins multiple wall battles and keeps puck in zone. Stafford finds Leopold at left faceoff circle for the one-timer.

It looked like the Oilers had tied the game, but Hemsky is called for goaltender interference. No goal. 14:26 to play.

****

Kaleta is sent to the box for charging Smid. looked like a clean shoulder on shoulder check. No such luck.

Oilers to the PP. 11:56 to play in the second.

Then, Buffalo bench minor for too many men.

***

2-2

Sam Gagner slams home a high cheese sangwich over Miller's glove.

Two points for Sam Gagner in two periods tonight. That's 16 points in his last 19 games.

I'm thinking Gagner would look good in Blue and Gold. Mississauga boy with silky mitts would fit right in here.

****

3rd Period:

Theo Peckham takes penalty with 9:06 remaining.

***

Derw Stafford's goal made it 3-2. Nathan Gerbe scored to make it 4-2.

Potter made it interesting at 4-3.

Sabres win

Late scratch announcement just before faceoff.

Zack Kassian emerges from the press box after a one game respite. Cody McCormick will sit this one out.

I like the move. Lindy telling the youngster that he needs more offense from him.

Cody's a team guy. He'll take it in stride.

Ryan Miller has never lost to the Edmonton Oilers in his NHL career.

The Sabres have won their last five games against the Oilers, outscoring them 22-7 during that span.

Ryan Miller started all five of those games and is a perfect 5-0-0 against the Oilers in his career with a 1.40 GAA. Edmonton’s last win against the Sabres came
on Oct. 16, 2003. The Oilers haven’t won in Buffalo since March 4, 2002.

I'm sitting on press row, thawing out from the walk across the frozen tundra from my sled to the arena.

I'm watching Sabres uber-prospect, Joel Armia, continue to kick ass in the WJCs. His Finns are beating Sweden, 2-0 right now in their semi final game. Canada will play Russia later tonight.

Armia just picket the wallet outta the pocket of a Swede D, turned. fired a laser that kissed iron and found the top shelf.

Armia has 4 goals and 2 assists in these WJCs.

He's a power forward, who plays a simple and solid, north/south game. Likes to go straight to the net and is very strong in one-on-one situations. Very dangerous near the opponent's net and uses his sharp and accurate shot well. Sick mitts!

This kid is special!

***

Im looking forward to more of this tonight from Regehr!
