From all the folks I speak to it's more of a matter of when than if. It's more about who comes out and states it than if it will be stated.

The time appears to have come for the Flames to cut bait and rebuild with the most famous Flame of all. It isn't a fun thing to talk about, or even write about. I have always said there are two players out West who I would pay to see play on any given night. Two of the most exciting players in the game...Patrick Kane and Jarome Iginla. (There are many others creeping up to that strata for me, but none have quite taken their permanent space there.)

However, the Flames are in the midst of a constant state of flux. If there was a movie to best describe the Flames last several season it would be "Groundhog Day." Make the playoffs and go out. Never good enough to win it, never bad enough to get the picks needed to find a new superstar.

There have been moments over the past few seasons where you heard the rumblings. Either Jarome quietly wanted out, or Calgary quietly was searching for value...but for the first time I get the strong sense the feeling is mutual...and both sides are in preparations for what will be a very difficult day in Alberta, but a day which most feel needs to happen.

As for my opinion, I am not sold on the idea of moving Iginla unless he is pushing for it. While it is true that one day he will retire and you will get nothing "for him" I still feel there is much to be gotten "from him." Mainly the work ethic he can teach a young nucleus and the continuity an organization gets by allowing a true living legend the prerogative to retire as a Flame.

Who is interested?

While it may be easier to say "who wouldn't be" I would look to Los Angeles, the NY Islanders, the Sabres, the Capitals, the Stars, the Hurricanes, and the Flyers.
