Scott Wedgewood makes Team Canada, updates on Zajac, Josefson, other notes

Between the Devils recently playing, and winning, on back-to-back nights, recent call ups, and trades among other things, their has been quite a bit to talk about. Here are some news pieces, notes and thoughts.

- Devils goaltending prospect Scott Wedgewood has been named to Team Canada. He will likely share the starting duties with Coyotes prospect Mark Vistentin, who plays for the Niagara IceDogs of the OHL. Wedgewood is a big-game goaltender and is certainly deserving of making the team. Hopefully he puts on a show.

- Tom Gulitti is reporting that Travis Zajac practiced today after having a maintenance day yesterday. He appears to be on track for a Friday return, which is certainly good news for the Devils. For what it's worth, I think Ilya Kovalchuk will play with Zajac and Zach Parise will stay with Adam Henrique.

- Gulitti is also reporting that Jacob Josefson is recovering nicely and is expected to return to the Devils in 4-8 weeks. That's certainly good news for the Devils who will be deep at center as long as they can stay healthy until Josefson returns.

- For what it's worth I expect Tim Sestito to be assigned to Albany when Travis Zajac returns. I could be wrong, though.

- Considering Kurtis Foster was not able to practice with the Devils even once since he was traded from Anaheim, I think he played pretty good tonight. He looked pretty good on the powerplay and showcased his big shot on several occasions. Foster played 5:56 on the powerplay last night which was the most among all Devils players, even Ilya Kovalchuk.

- I really like the job Pete DeBoer has done with the Devils this year, but one thing I don't like is how he has handled Mattias Tedenby. He has played his ass off and has played pretty well the whole season, yet he's been buried on the third or fourth line for almost all of the Devils games. Yesterday Tedenby played on the fourth line while Eric Boulton played on the third. That makes no sense to me.

- I've touched on this a few times throughout the week but I'll say it again: I expect Alexander Urbom will be assigned to Albany when Anton Volchenkov returns. He's simply not ready for the NHL yet. He's done his best, though. He just needs more time.
