To say that the Ottawa Senators(3-4-3) and the Buffalo Sabres(3-5-2) have struggled in their last ten games is a bit of an understatement, but at least one of the two Northeast division rivals will be able to right the ship after a Tuesday night affair at First Niagara Center.
The two teams have met twice this season, with both decisions going the way of the Buffalo Sabres. Currently, Buffalo sits third in the Northeast (32P, 15-12-2), but could find themselves in a battle for the cellar if Ottawa (30P, 13-13-3) can sneak out a regulation victory on Tuesday.
For the Ottawa Senators, the road hasn't been very kind, as the team's played fought valiantly but managed just a paltry 6-7-3 record away from Scotiabank Place. Their only reprieve? The Buffalo Sabres have struggled on home ice mightily, with a 7-9-2 record at First Niagara. In the Eastern Conference, only the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes have been worse in their own building.
Paul MacLean and Lindy Ruff have grown a bit tiresome of the on-ice work, and changes are expected for both teams. Ottawa's comes in the form of a press-boxing for one Bobby Butler, who will sit in favor of Zenon Konopka. Buffalo will ice young talent Brayden McNabb, although it's unknown right now whether Matt Ellis or Marc-Andre Gragnani will become the healthy scratch, although MAG looks like the prime candidate.
In net, it'll be two familiar faces: Craig Anderson for Ottawa, and Ryan Miller for Buffalo. Anderson's 12-10-2 on the year, with a .895 save percentage and 3.42 GAA. Miller's 7-6-1 on the season, with a .910 save percentage and 2.80 GAA.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on Sportsnet East. As always, dial it up here for the post-game.
