The axe fell this morning, as Don Hay cut his first group of players from the Team Canada Camp. Not only ending their time out west, but it puts out a dream to don the maple leaf and go for gold.

Your confirmed cuts are as follows:

- Mathew Dumba
- Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc
- Brenden Kichton
- Michael Ferland
- Mark McNeill
- Zack Phillips
- Max Reinhart

Which means that four defensemen, seven forwards and two goalies will need to be further cut.

Last night also saw a second intra-squad game between Red and White with Team Red pulling off a 2-1 win. Mark Stone opened the scoring in the third, and Brandon Gormley sealed the win with an open netter from his own zone.

- Brad Ross was almost invisible until the third period when he started to insert himself physically. For a guy who would have to come into the team as a 'pest' he certainly didn't look like one last night. His saving grace in making it past the first cuts has to be familiarity from coach, Don Hay.

- Jamie Oleksiak looks much better than he's shown in the OHL thus far. Looks a lot more comfortable with his skating, and inserted his frame more often. I'm sure Canada wants that size in their blueline.

- Mark Stone just always seemed to be one of the more dangerous forwards when he stepped onto the ice, and it resulted in the game winner.

- Nathan Beaulieu was one of the better Dmen last night offensively, and saw some time with Dougie Hamilton on the PP. Could he come in as the #7 PP Specialist?

- Noticed that Brandon Gormley and Alex Petrovic were used together a lot. A possible pairing for Canada. Gormley, for me, has been the best D in camp, playing a very calm game.
