Is Giroux Concussed?

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren tried to put on a brave face on Saturday night.

He said that Claude Giroux was "okay" but his body language seemed to be saying, "We're really hoping that he doesn't have a concussion but we don't know."

It will be days before Giroux is really out of danger. Then again, as we've seen with Chris Pronger and other NHLers, concussions cane be very latent and not show up for weeks.

Wayne Simmonds tried to hurdle a fallen Giroux in the 3rd period and his knee caught the back of the center's head. Replays show how violent the collision was.

Simmonds seemed very uncomfortable talking about the play after the game. He also admitted he had no idea how hard he struck Giroux but it looked pretty bad on replays.

This bears watching over the next several days.

It's one thing that the Flyers have been winning without Chris Pronger. They had a winning record without him all last season.

But Giroux IS the glue that is holding the offense together and his line with Jaromir Jagr ande Scott Hartnell is carrying this team.

Did we mention he's the NHL scoring leader?

His loss would be just short of catastrophic for the Flyers.
