The Nashville Predators are back home to host the Buffalo Sabres tonight at Bridgestone Arena as the second half of an NCAA/NHL hockey doubleheader. The University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers complete the back half of their two game set with the University of Nebraska – Omaha Mavericks at 1pm today, attempting to sweep the series against the 20th ranked team in the country.

The UAH Chargers got two goals from Brice Geoffrion to down the Mavericks 3-1 last night in front of a solid crowd at the Bridge. This was the beleaguered program’s first win of the season, and a very satisfying one at that. An interesting side note, Brice Geoffrion scored the first goal of the game, as his brother Sebastian did last season when the Chargers visited Nashville to take on Merrimack College, completing the Geoffrion Hat Trick as all three of the Tennessee native brothers have scored on Bridgestone Arena ice. The second game of their series is today at 1pm.

The Predators are looking to build off their wild 6-5 win over Vancouver on Thursday night. The team does need to get back to the kind of Predator hockey that has been their hallmark as they certainly don’t want to get into a run-and-gun type of game with Buffalo. The Sabres have been struggling as of late, losers of their last two, going 3-6-1 over their last ten, and slipping to third in the Northeast Division.

Buffalo’s injury situation is difficult… the team should see the return of Ryan Miller tonight after he dressed as backup last night in Detroit, definitely good news for Sabre fans… however Nathan Gerbe is very questionable after taking a skate to the face in their loss last night. Jordan Leopold and Tyler Myers are out for tonight. The Predators list Blake Geoffrion on IR, Francis Bouillon is listed as day-to-day and Sergei Kostitsyn is listed as questionable.

It should be a big day of hockey in Smashville… Come on down and join me for some great NCAA Hockey at 1pm, the Preds drop the puck at 7pm. Radio only tonight on 102.5 the Game.

Random Notes

- There are hopeful signs for UAH Hockey, meetings are occurring this week with the target of reversing the incredibly biased decision from the former chancellor of the university. Now that he is tucked back safely in Tuscaloosa, the new leader of the university can do the right thing and keep this program going.

- Big Ben had a great message on his belly last night…

- Another new coach not able to pull a win in his first game, Philly beats Anaheim in Bruce Boudreau’s first game behind the Ducks bench

- Twelve games tonight, including some really good divisional matchups… Toronto/Boston and Chicago/St. Louis.
