20 for 60: Jets Shoot Down Yotes

20 for 60. It needs to be the mantra of the Winnipeg Jets. Last night against a good Coyotes team the Winnipeg Jets showed what they can do when they play 20 for 60. Evander Kane was by far the best Jet on the ice and gave a glimmer into the superstar he could become. Ondrej Pavelec stoned the Coyotes for his second shut out of the season as he provided more evidence that he will be the franchise cornerstone goalie.

The biggest difference between this game and the one against Ottawa was the two-way play by the Jets and how they managed to keep the pressing Coyotes at bay. Despite allowing 29 shots on Pavelec the Jets did not stop there efforts in all areas of the ice and prevented the Coyotes from tying and winning the game. As coach Noel said after "we managed the game better".

As Eklund mentioned in his blog- the game was a fantastic series of rushes, onslaughts, saves, counter attacks, and defensive maneuvering. It was everything hockey should be, suspenseful with a goaltending duel and scoring chances galore.

This game is exactly how the Jets are going to win hockey games, it won't be 4-1 wins, or 9-8 games it will be low scoring with dramatic finishes.

Tomorrow is an early game with a 6 PM local start against the Devils who are playing in Minnesota tonight. There is an intriguing story line as the Jets and Devils have a trade history with the Kovalchuk move from two years ago. Imagine if Kovy was still a Thrasher now Jet and having him with Antropov and Burmistrov on a line?

In other news re-alignment talks and speculation are alive and well for the NHL as the December meetings are upon us. No team has more at stake than the Jets yet it is doubtful the newest governor, Mark Chipman, makes much noise about his placement. I have huge thoughts on re-alignment but they tie in with the bigger picture of how the NHL operates it's regular season match-ups and playoff seeding.

Here's your chance- predict how the new alignment looks. Let's see your options

Have a great day!
