After a topsy-turvy November that saw the club finish with a 6-6-1 record, the Dallas Stars (14-9-1) turn the page tonight and start the new month with a home game against the Ottawa Senators (12-10-2). The game starts at 7:30 PM CST and will be broadcast locally on Fox Sports Southwest.
This is the lone meeting of the season between the two clubs. Last season, the teams also met one time, with the Stars prevailing, 2-1, in Ottawa. The game was scoreless until the final four minutes of the second period, when Trevor Daley put Dallas ahead only for Ryan Shannon to answer back 15 seconds later for the Sens. Early in the third period, Brenden Morrow restored the lead for Dallas, which Andrew Raycroft (18 saves) made stand up behind a defense that severely limited Ottawa's scoring chances.
The Stars had hoped to have Morrow (back ailment) in the lineup after he missed the last week and was placed on IR. However, according to ESPN Dallas, Morrow is likely out until next Thursday. Trevor Daley (back) is in a similar situation. Dallas will also be without Kari Lehtonen (IR, groin), Alex Goligoski (IR, broken thumb) and Adam Burish (IR, broken hand).
Even with the depleted lineup, the Stars gritted out an impressive 3-1 win over Colorado on Monday. The Senators enter this game coming off a win over the Jets. Ottawa is 5-3-2 in its last 10 game.
Dallas is going to need the Jamie Benn and Mike Ribeiro lines to start scoring again with more game-in and game-out consistency than they've displayed over the last three weeks. It is no coincidence that the Stars are 10-3-1 when Benn registers at least one point (6-0-1 when he has a multi-point game) and 4-6-0 when he's held off the scoresheet.
