Should Ottawa Claim Blake Comeau?

On Thanksgiving day here in the United States, the New York Islanders placed Blake Comeau on waivers, potentially ending his run in Uniondale. To the surprise of no one, speculation regarding whether or not Ottawa would make a claim ran rampant.

Comeau's not your prototypical waiver-wire acquisition - he's a career 0.46 PPG player, fresh off of a rather impressive 24G/22A run with the New York Islanders one year ago. Clearly, the front office isn't enthralled by his play of late (0G/0A in 16 GP), but are his struggles a product of standard regression, or is he being plagued by a poor New York Islanders attack to begin with?

The 25 year-old Comeau isn't exactly a monstrous upgrade for an Ottawa Senators team looking to build through its system, but considering the fact that he can be had for a fraction of his realizable value, should Bryan Murray, et al kick the tires here?

If Ottawa doesn't place a claim, expect one of many other potential suitors to step in and grab him from New York. Comeau might be an enigmatic talent, but there's plenty of need in today's National Hockey League for a goal-scorer, and on the cheap, someone will give a guy who potted twenty-two in 2010-2011 a serious look.

Apologies for the brevity of this blog, but I'm about to go H.A.M on another brilliant Thanksgiving dinner.

Back with more tomorrow.
