Tonight the NY islanders honor one of the games greats as well as one class individual. Ed Westfall will have his plaque unveiled tonight before the game against the Bruins. The ceremony, to be MC'd by Jiggs McDonald will happen before tonight's game. The puck droop will happen at 7:16 because of the ceremony.

It is well deserved.

The photo above is one I took when Ed and Jiggs first saw each other at the Coliseum today. Number 18 has a large contingent of his family with him. It's a very special night for him and the Islanders fans.

Chris King of WRHU had two great interviews with both Westall and McDonald. My interviews won't be as good and won't be tonight, that's for sure.

So many great stories between the two of them. So very special.

Now, that ceremony was only 16 minutes long, but will it effect the team? Does it effect the players focus when it's happening?

Tim Thomas (the beast according to my daughter) vs Rick DiPietro. Who will blink first?

But let's think of the game.

With Rick DiPietro the goalie that isn't injured, Anders Nilsson has been recalled from Bridgeport to back Rick up.

Well, it was Rick that blinked first as Bergeron got the B's on the board first. But in all honesty, that goal wasn't Rick's fault.

The Bruins get the first power play of the night on a high stick penalty on Blake Comeau at 9:52. The Isles didn't manage a shot on net until Frans Nielsen gets by the Bruins with a short handed chance.

Milan Jurcina takes a holding penalty to put the Isles down by two for a full 30. You remember what I've said before. If you can't score 5 on 3, you shouldn't be playing.

Chara cannot defend and the Isles get another short handed chance --that goes no where.

Horton makes it 2 - 0 on the 5 on 3. This one is Rick's fault as he has a hard time clearing the puck, which he shouldn't be doing in the first place.

Shots on goal are 9 - 1 in favor of the Bruins.

18:35 the Bruins score their third goal of the period by Kelly. The Isles only have two shots on net and the Bruins have 3 goals. They need to turn things around. Now.

The second period will be the bright spot of the game with Jiggs & Eddie reunited in the Broadcas booth. I'm not sure if the Isles will do anything to make a highlight reel, unless it's allowing the Bruins to score three more goals in the second.

The second period starts with Anders Nilsson in net making his NHL debut. There is nothing else that Jack could do but to change goalies. Rick does not look happy on the bench

Jurcina gets to serve the too many men penalty that puts the Bruins back on the power play for the fourth time this game. Tim Thomas has fallen asleep at the other end of the ice.

So did I.

Facing the reigning Stanley Cup champions, Anders Nilsson gives up the Bruins 4th goal of the evening to Ference with 9:35 left of the third.

This game got away fromt he Isles quickly and they never found their way again.

A backhander over a sprawled Nilsson give the Bruins a 5 goal lead. Kelley's second and the Bruins haven't thought about their season slow start at all.

Chara. Enough said. Six.

No consolation to have the Rangers lose 4 - 0 tonight.
