Wild lull Avs to sleep

When it rains it pours, that is unless you are talking about goals in the game between the Avalanche and Wild.

The Wild won 1-0 after a Dany Heatley shot ricocheted off the leg of Erik Johnson right to the stick of Devin Setoguchi for the only goal with two and a half minutes remaining.

The Wild lulled the Avs' offense to sleep and minimized their chances as only they can do. The Avs got 27 shots but none of them were rebounds and only a few from a high-scoring area. The Avs countered for most of the game but one bounce ended up being the difference.

After surrendering six goals in their last game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Avs were solid in this game, covering their gaps and relying on one another, forming a five man defensive unit for the first time since the Los Angeles Kings game on Oct. 30.

There won't be long to brood on this loss, as the Avs board a plane to come home to face the Dallas Stars, kicking off a crucial 8-game homestand.

If the Avs fall flat on this homestand, the chances of being a playoff team get smaller yet.

Three Stars

1. Nicklas Backstrom- shuts out the Avs, making 27 saves.
2. Devin Setoguchi- scored the lone goal.
3. Jean-Sebastien Giguere- had 17 saves in a tough-luck loss

Facepalm of the Game

Paul Stastny gets this for passing up a great shot from the right faceoff circle with Duchene standing in front of the net waiting for a rebound.

Bang bang play of the Game

Giguere wins for his padstacking save on Nick Schultz in the second period to keep the game scoreless.
